About C&C

Our primary goal is to offer eldercare advocates tools and resources that help increase their knowledge, reduce assumptions, and achieve the crucial goal of sharing timely, accurate and relevant information with care partners.

We want to see you succeed in your role, not burn out from chasing information when time is precious, or from feeling too awkward to weigh in on matters that impact your life as well.

We want to help build your sense of agency for making care decisions when necessary—difficult and easy ones—and not abandon self-care as you lean in to make a positive difference.

We encourage early action so that anxiety and worry won’t blow you off course when you find yourself in a storm. It’s not unlike preparing a go-bag and sharing your chosen evacuation route. Organizing basics, learning about options, and sharing goals while preserving your well-being on an eldercare advocate journey... that's what we're talking about here!

NICE TO MEET YOU

continued...

In our situation, changes often came straight out of the blue. We all had to adapt. I credit my parents with being incredibly resilient. Turnovers in caregivers, new living situations, cognitive and physical changes… it all demanded focused oversight. Sometimes I leaned in hard to stabilize what felt like spiraling outcomes. My sailor dad might have used “lost-at-sea” to define the isolation and lack of essential coordinates to navigate an ever-expanding sea of caregiving needs and providers.

It became apparent that medical providers and their systems need guidance from us too. Doctors often do not see how much—or how little—solid ground patients and advocates stand on, unaware of shifting resources outside their clinics. And that can lead to assumptions… on both sides of patient care. I learned whenever assumptions influenced decision making, best outcomes were at risk.

You sometimes hear, "It takes a village," to raise children. I’ve learned this framework is just as relevant at the other end of life's journey. Building a care partner team and supporting loved ones is a blessing that may or may not be immediately revealed. Wherever you are on your journey, know you can make a positive difference when you take good care of yourself while you advocate intentionally and help unapologetically.

Having a better understanding of what a caregiver can and cannot expect is a game changer. I see even more how caregivers can really make a positive impact on quality-of-life for those whom they care, and how important self-care is in the process."
